Presentations
At some time in your business career you will be required to make a presentation. Just what is a presentation anyway? We know it differs from
conversation, which occurs spontaneously. It’s also different from a speech, which is a form of a lecture by an authority. A speech isn’t interactive. The audience is not expected to do anything after a speech.
That’s the primary distinction between a speech and a presentation. A presentation has a formal structure and is meant to persuade an individual or audience to take some kind of action — such as buy a service or approve a budget.
In order to win people to your ideas you must:
- Know what your audience needs. This is the “what’s in it for me.”
- Have a clearly defined subject. The presentation should focus on one central idea.
- Select the facts that will convince the audience to take the action you want. If early in the sales process this could be to meet with the next higher up or if you are further along, to give you the order.
- Elicit feedback to ensure understanding. Adjust your presentation if necessary to get the desired response
