Generate Live Leads through LinkedIn

LinkedIn is an amazing social media tool for business and social networking, but did you know that you can actually generate leads from a feature in your LinkedIn profile that will set you apart from your competitors. Curious yet?

Jeannette Paladino, owner of this site, wrote an article not too long ago about how to insert the name of your website into your LinkedIn profile (replacing the default Company Website).

As she pointed out, in the “Websites” section you can insert three URLs. Most people put their company website and that’s it. Ummm…excuse me, but there are two other hyperlinks that you can use for some serious lead generation. You’re not limited to listing only your website. You can link to other sites.

These are live hyperlinks, so you can add an application or a service – and not just your website. For example, someone could click on your link and connect directly to a real human being.

Chat With a Real Person

Let me describe one service that let’s you do this: LiveChatAgent. One of the benefits of this service is that a chat window pops up with a URL…and that URL can be placed into your LinkedIn profile. Do you see where I am going with this?

So when someone clicks on that URL on your LinkedIn profile…a real person will answer directly from LinkedIn! So your LinkedIn profile is literally working 24/7. Of course all of this is based upon using a live chat program. LiveChatAgent is just one of many companies out there.

Below is a screen shot of my LinkedIn profile and I have drawn a red circle around the websites section.

Notice the last link of the three, “Click Here to Live Chat w/Me.” When someone clicks on this hyperlink, a pop-up window opens and you can begin a live online chat. Live agents interact with your website visitors and collect contact information, answer their questions and forward the contact information to the business they are working for follow-up.

This chat session is invaluable to a business for these reasons:

1. Your agent is having a real-time conversation and gathering information from a potential customer.

2. The geo-tagged information can be of use later on. (IP Address, date/time stamp, chat transcript, etc.).

3. Your business is available 24/7.

When someone clicks on my chat URL, my lead generation machine goes to work. So, as you can see, there is a lot more you can do with your social media accounts to create real ROI from a free profile. As a social media consultant, I’m always looking for an edge that will help separate my clients from their competition. This is just one powerful example.

  1. What a great tip, Andrew. I have edited my profile to reflect the actual name of my site but I had no idea that you could use these links for applications. This is very clever. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Sherryl,

Thanks for the compliments! Yeah there are all sorts of things you can do with Social Media to stay one step ahead of everyone else. Technology is rapidly changing the way we communicate; might as well be on the forefront! 😀

  3. Thanks for sharing this Andrew and I must fix up my profile. I wasn’t aware you could do this either. It seems everyday there is something else we can via technology. Out of interest has the live chat helped your business?

  4. Susan,

That’s ok…I forget to read tons of stuff all the time. heh

Yes, I work with LiveChatAgent in sales and support. I really like finding and exploring new ways of applying the technology into useful ways for lead generation. 😀

  5. Fantastic idea to use LiveChatAgent Andrew!

Love it apart from the fact that I have problems with men I have never even heard of developing a crush on me on social media. Presumably because of my blog and discussions on Linkedin? Adding LiveChatAgent would be a nightmare unfortunately. 🙂

  6. Hi Andrew, thank you for sharing this great tip. It is useful and valuable not only to business owners but also to someone who is looking for a job. BTW, how much is the fee to have livechat? Thanks!

  7. @Catarina…how can you blame men for finding you attractive? That’s not really a problem. lol

LiveChatAgent would be actually great because they would be vetting out the relationship lookers from the real leads. So in a sense would be opposite to what you think it could do for you. 😀

@Mary…to have live chat w/ real agents talking with your site visitors 24/7 on your own website it starts out at $249 per month. There are other plans as well. If you’d like more information please feel free to visit: What were you looking to accomplish?

  8. Hmmm, Interesting insights. I do use LinkedIn; however, not to the extent you have mentioned. Maybe I need to take another look at the network.
