It’s Memorial Day today in the U.S. — a time when we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. I’m glad the sun is shining today, at least where I live, for the families and friends who will be visiting the grave sites of their loved ones. They deserve a beautiful day to honor some 2.7 million women and men who have given their lives in conflicts over the years for my wonderful country — the USA. Thank you to all those who have died so that I could remain free.

Hope you had a nice weekend celebrating Memorial Day in the U.S. Like millions of other Americans, I attended a barbecue, my nephew’s annual party and bocci tournament on Long Island.
This holiday honoring our brave service men and women, past and present, had special meaning because Ken’s daughter is serving as an ensign aboard a ship in the Mediterranean.
His cousin, John Bates, who was at the barbecue, is a volunteer at a wonderful organization called “Adopt a Battalion” that sends care packages containing food, personal hygiene items, books, etc., to our troops. I was proud to drop my donation in a box he had brought along.
So, if you’d like to make a donation to this fine organization, you can do so online by clicking on Donate Now or by sending a check to Adopt-a-Battalion, 312 Maryland Avenue, Massapequa Park, NY 11762.
